The Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) and Certified Flight Instrument Instructor (CFII) is when the student becomes the teacher. Your first job as a helicopter pilot is typically as a CFI which allows you to share the skills you’ve just mastered with someone who is just starting out. The responsibility is great and we stress the importance of safe flying as well as having a solid base of aeronautical knowledge.

What You'll Learn
The CFI and CFII courses will teach you how to become the teacher. You will fly from the left seat demonstrating maneuvers to your instructor and teaching ground lessons. You will fortify your aeronautical knowledge and ability to demonstrate maneuvers to prospective students.
Course Requirements
For the CFI program You must hold a commercial helicopter certificate. You must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language. You must hold a current third class medical.
For the CFII program You must hold a commercial helicopter certificate with an instrument helicopter rating. You must be able to speak, read, write and understand the English language. You must hold a current third class medical.
You must pass the FAA Fundamentals of Instruction and CFI written exams.
There is no hour requirement to obtain either the CFI or CFII. You can assume it will take you around 20 hours of dual flight instruction from the left seat and approximately 30 hours of ground instruction.
Cost
Rates for the R22 is $360/hr which includes fuel and instructor.
Ground instruction is $50/hour.
